You’ve seen the word, you’ve heard about it, you’ve definitely seen slow moving dreamy reels on Instagram …
But what exactly does the word Tablescape mean?
Tablescape is a word that covers all of the elements that you add to a table to decorate it and make it appealing. It involves arranging these elements in a creative way to elevate or enhance your dining experience.
Let’s break that down.
What is the difference between a Table Setting and a Tablescape?
A table setting is: knives, forks, glasses and plates. Why not download my FREE handy reference guide for How to Set a Table. Sometimes when you’re already in the middle of setting the table is the exact time you forget if the fork goes on the left or the right!!
A tablescape is: tablecloth, placemats, place setting, coasters, napkins, candles, flowers, menus, placenames, accents. These are the elements that you can flex your creativity with and add in some personal tablescape touches.
First off let’s start with the basics. In other words, starting from the table and working our way up. You may have heard of layering your tablescape. This is what it means …

What should I include in my Tablescape?
You can make it as easy or complex as you like. You definitely need your table setting! But you can add all, or just one or two, of the other elements to your table. Either way you might be surprised at the impact that a few coordinating items can have on your table.
I’ll detail my tips and tricks in another post so be sure to check back soon!
Why not have a look at our Gingham Luxury Paper Placemats – The colour range is really versatile to coordinate and style with. What I love about these placemats is that they are durable enough for a seasonal update as they can be reused across multiple occasions. They are fully recyclable whilst also being made from recycled card. Meaning you don’t have to worry about getting stains on tablecloths during your celebrations! They’re easy to store and keep on hand for any occasion that may come calling.
I believe every single person is creative and anyone can make their table beautiful with a few simple additions. You don’t have to have vintage or designer plates or the latest trendy glassware. Use what you already have - pop some coordinating flowers in a few small vases or even jam jars, add name or menu cards and there you have a beautiful Tablescape that will bring joy both to you and everyone you’ve gathered together.
